Employment Standards Act, 2000 Changes Effective February 20, 2015

On November 20, 2014, Bill 18 received Royal Assent. The following changes are effective February 20, 2015:

  • The new limitation period for employees to bring an unpaid wage claim to the Ministry of Labour is extended from six months to two years.
  • The new limitation for employees to bring an unpaid vacation pay claim before the Ministry of Labour is extended from six months to one year.
  • There is now no limit on the amount of unpaid wages that an Employment Standards Officer can order employers to pay, removing the $10,000 limit.
