The Ontario government has taken new steps to provide job protection to workers in Ontario.

By recognizing the importance of family and job security, the proposed Employment Standards Amendment Act (Leaves to Help Families), 2013 would expand on the existing Family Medical Leave.

Three new job-protected leaves have been created:

  • Family Caregiver Leave
  • Critically Ill Child Care Leave
  • Crime-Related Child Death and Disappearance Leave

This legislation, if passed, would allow working caregivers to focus on providing care and support to their families, instead of worrying about losing their job, among other things.
