Effective June 1, 2015, the minimum wage in the Northwest Territories (NWT) will increase from $10.00 per hour to $12.50 per hour, making it one of the highest in Canada.
Currently the NWT has the lowest minimum wage and yet has one of the highest costs-of-living in Canada.
The increase will ensure that the minimum wage in the NWT is competitive with other jurisdictions. It will be manageable for employers while also helping minimum wage earners to keep up with cost-of-living in the NWT.
