Ontario Ministry of Labour inspectors began their latest health and safety blitz this month, targeting hazards involving waste and recycling management at industrial and health care workplaces.

Inspectors are visiting work sites to ensure that employers, supervisors and workers are complying with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and to verify that proper handling and disposal procedures are in place and are being followed to protect workers and prevent workplace injuries.

The blitz will continue throughout December and will focus on:

  • Information, instruction and supervision for workers to protect their health and safety
  • Correct handling and disposal requirements of waste in health care workplaces.

Workplaces that are known to have a high-frequency of injuries related to recycling and waste management and where complaints have been received will be targeted by inspectors.
