32% of Employers Unprepared for Bill 168

Last summer, a survey conducted by the Human Resources Professionals Association (HRPA) revealed that 75% of employers supported the then-proposed legislation for Bill 168, Ontario’s new law on workplace violence and prevention.

A year later, just days before the bill became active, a recent HRPA survey found 32% of employers unprepared for the June 15 deadline.

Over half of the employers felt that the obligations to train employees and implement procedures for reporting and investigating violence were the greatest challenge to their resources.

In an effort to assist employers, the HRPA is currently working with the Ontario Ministry of Labour to provide input on developing templates and tools for meeting the bill’s implementation requirements.
